This house prototype is adaptable to fit on a variety of lot
configurations. It is designed to accommodate a professional couple with two
teenagers, comfortable for both everyday living and casual entertaining. It will serve the parents in their empty-nester
years too.
The house is defined by two cubes, representing the public and
private areas, with a lower form mediating between them. The splayed
shape of the intermediate space opens the house spatially in both plan
and section, providing access to light and views.
The design can fit on a standard or
corner lot, and on a flat or sloped site; in the latter case a daylight
basement is incorporated.
The primary structural components are composite trusses and
stressed-skin panels, with a structural steel frame. The panels contain
integral insulation and provide the interior finish. Rigid insulation is
provided at the roof.
